Support for Professionals

A Fairer Start is all about supporting families in the community and recognising that each parent, child and family has a unique journey. As well as supporting families through Champion Programme activities, volunteers also work with other professionals in various settings.

Big Life Families support a range of volunteer roles working both in the community and alongside professionals - below are some examples:
  • 2 year provision Champion
  • Ante-natal Champion
  • Portage SEND Champion
  • Education Champions with schools
  • Mental Health Peer Support Champion

All Champion Programme volunteers complete a 7 week training programme before working with families which covers safeguarding, professional boundaries, confidentiality, equality & diversity, the A Fairer Start approach and more. Volunteers also carry out additional training if required for their role on topics including mental health, breastfeeding, dental health etc.
